Lucy Beyers was born with a rare cardiac birth defect called heterotaxy that impacted the arrangement of her internal organs. As an infant, she spent a lot of time at Riley Hospital for Children and underwent three major surgeries. At only six weeks old, Lucy had her first heart surgery, going on to have a LADDS procedure at eight weeks and open heart surgery at three months old. When she was ten, she got a pacemaker because of a low heart rate.
Today, Lucy is doing amazing. "It's incredible how far I've [come],” Lucy said. She loves to dance, cheer, and spend time with her three siblings, Banks, Barrett, and Ruby. Lucy is especially interested in art and has used her talent to support Riley Hospital for Children, contributing designs to a calendar sold by the Riley Foundation with all proceeds benefiting the hospital. Every day, she remains dedicated to raising funds and increasing awareness for Riley Hospital for Children’s cause.
Lucy’s story inspires many. She was named Indiana’s 2023 Children Miracle Network Hospital Champion and has appeared on the Kelly Clarkson Show and the NBC Nightly News.
Lucy is a true miracle with a heart of gold. Her love for Riley Hospital for Children shows through her compassionate and kindhearted endeavors. "It's definitely an amazing hospital. They save lives there,” Lucy said. Riley Hospital for Children is the place that helped save Lucy’s life and is where she built special connections with doctors and specialists that have inspired her compassionate spirit and commitment to giving back.
